Thanks for the review. I was on the fence with this one… not anymore. Getting it!!!

Yeah, I love any doc or book on that era.

Great review of a great doc. I think the Criterion comparison is a good one. As a matter of fact, Criterion should start their own channel. drooool

Also, “Decade Under the Influence” is a great doc/miniseries in the same vein as Z Channel and Easy Riders,Raging Bulls. 70s were an incredible era for film.

It’s well worth your while. The doc did a good job capturing the tone of the book, but of course it had to lose out on alot of the little details. Fun read, for sure!

  • TheKrazyJason says:

Ah, very cool! With all of the access we have now (netflix, etc…), us film lovers still need a channel like that. God bless TCM, but we need a 24/7 channel for world cinema.

  • TheKrazyJason says:

Indeed it is but, but oddly soothing at the same time.

Also, it’s nice to have another classics person on here. I’m no longer alone! I didn’t realize Easy Riders and Raging Bulls was a book. I talked about the doc briefly when I did Targets on here a while back. I loved the documentary; I’ll have to get a copy of the book and give it a go.

We had that channel when I was very young and we lived in L.A. Cable in general at the time seemed more diverse film wise than it is now. Not many people had cable, we were the only ones on our street who did (late 70s, early 80s), and what was being shown then (even though there were very few channels) was a lot more international as you stated than it is now. From what I remember it was an amazing channel; I come from a film loving family, and that channel was a must have.

  • TheKrazyJason says:

Yeah, in fact it first aired on IFC. But yes, the ultimate channel.

The Goonies set is really nice. I have yet to spend some quality time with it, but it’s a beautiful box, it had to go right up on the shelf! It was a gift, but I’d say well worth the moneu if you’re a big fan of the movie.

That’s cool to hear. The Odd Couple! For some reason I feel this great comedy has been largely forgotten. Most people tend to remember the tv show, but for me it will always be Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau I will def. put on my list to review in the future…

That thing behind you must be a pain in the ass to dust.

  • benway20 says:

Sounds like it’s TCM meets IFC… sounds like the perfect channel to me!

  • puckbond007 says:

Great video KJ! Sounds like a very cool documentary…I’ve never even heard of this channel! And Yojimbo is right that Goonies gift set looks so nice in the background, I’ve been thinking about getting it! :)

    Nice collection.

I’m very interested in checking out this documentary. Speaking of TCM, it’s pretty much in my mind, one of the 5 best channels on TV. I’m 18, and I’m not like most people my age and complain about black and white movies. I want to dive into the classic movies. Thank God for DVR because I don’t have enough tape to record the stuff I record off there. So far I’ve gotten Citizen Kane, Seventh Seal, Odd Couple, Great Dictator, Mad Mad Mad Mad World, and so many other classic movies I need to watch

  • TheRoughCuts says:

    All of it? Awesome!!

  • TheRoughCuts says:

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, Goonies, what a great set! I have yet to check out the bluray, how’s the PQ?

  • TheLindsayBoo says:

I LOVEEEEE what is behind you! That is all. :-)

  • yojimbo81 says:

Goonies 25th!!! It’s on my shelf too. You guys are a great addition to TheRoughCuts. Hope the other slots get filled. Z Channel is a cool flick btw. Wish I could have witnessed the glory of Z Channel. True pioneers.
